How much preparation is needed?
Prepare as you normally would, following normal painting practices. Follow all safety guidelines.
- Wash and clean areas.
- Be sure to remove all mold and mildew
- Scrape and sand until area is stable
- Sand area to your desired smoothness
- Sand glossy areas and finishes.
- Let all areas dry to below 15% moisture content.
What should I do next after the prep work?
It is important to apply Crack Fix directly on the problem area before any patching is done. After the problem area has been stabilized with Crack Fix, proceed patching to achieve desired look.
How is Crack Fix applied?
Crack Fix can be applied with a brush and roller. Work Crack Fix into the substrate so it can penetrate and adhere better.
Do I need to apply Crack Fix to all surfaces?
Crack Fix may be used as a spot primer for trouble areas or to prime an entire project
How many coats of Crack Fix do I need?
Generally one coat is enough to stabilize the problem surface. Apply a second coat to badly worn, cracking, or peeling areas.
How much Crack Fix will I need?
Crack Fix has a coverage of 250 – 350 SF per gallon.
How thick should it be applied?
Apply a thin coat of Crack Fix to the problem areas surface. If another coat is needed for tough areas, apply an additional thin coat.
How long does it take to dry?
Crack Fix goes on a milky blue and dries clear in about 1 hour. Recoat in 2 hours
Should Crack Fix be tacky after it dries?
Yes, Crack Fix might be clear and dry, but continues to be tacky. Recoat within 24 hours.
Can I tint Crack Fix?
No. We do not recommend tinting the product.
What products can I apply over Crack Fix?
Apply a superior-grade, 100% latex interior paint. We do not recommend using oil based, solvent based or two part “hot” products. These products do not have enough flexibility and could crack / crackle.
Check all coatings for compatibility with Crack Fix before proceeding with entire project.
