Deck Fix and Stain

Another frequent question is, ” Can I use a decking paint over Deck Fix Primer?”  The answer is no.

We recommend a Solid Latex Decking Stain over DF. That’s right not just a latex house stain, but a solid latex decking stain, designed specifically for a horizontal surface.  A solid latex Decking stain (SLDS) is designed to be able to withstand the harsh elements and conditions of a deck.

If you use an oil or latex decking paint, directly on top of DF, you run the risk of the the coating failing.  A decking paint is not as flexible as a SLDS and can bubble, crackle and peel.

Decks are a funny animal. They degrade & peel very quickly. Deck Fix is designed to counter the effect of weather conditions and double the average life of your project.

Here’s a basic explaination of how Deck Fix works.

  1. Deck Fix (DF) is thinner bodied primer designed to fully penetrate into the deck surface.
  2. DF will wrap itself over, under, and around all the previous coatings and lock them down.
  3. Because DF fully penetrates and has little film thickness…there is very little to peel off.  DF acts as a flexible stabilizing tack coat between the deck and the solid latex decking stain.
  4. DF glues itself to the deck and also glues itself to the top coat.
  5. DF remains Flexible! This allows it to withstand the changes of the seasons from cold to hot and also wet to dry.
  6. DF is also very breathable. This allows moisture to pass thru the coating so it has less chance or peeling and bubbling.

Good Luck , Mad Dog.
